The United States of America has launched an offensive in the information confrontation with Russia, the head of State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) Daniel Kimmage said. According to him, the struggle will be conducted in the form of US financial support to certain Russian media and bloggers. The center was established two years ago at the US Department of State, the GEC requested 40 million dollars for the information fight with Russia, TASS reports.

Kimmage told that a team of high-profile specialists had been created for information analysis at the GEC. The Center has 25 projects to combat "Russian propaganda" in 21 countries. The head of the GEC promised that the results of the active work of the Center would be visible in two or three years.

Kimmage also said that in the information war, Americans would use the same methods (adjusted for new technologies) that the United States resorted to in the early 1980s in the information confrontation with the Soviet Union. According to Kimmage, the Americans discovered European organizations collaborating with the USSR back then.

He does not hide the fact that GEC considers the financing of opposition Russian media as the most effective method of dealing with Russia in the information field. The media are ordered to expose disinformation on the Internet. According to Kimmage, the money for these purposes will come from a special fund of the State Department.

Last autumn State Department's deputy spokesperson Robert Palladino said that the American side got in touch with Russian bloggers and active users of social networks in order to promote certain information through them in the Russian information field.

According to the statement of the GEC head, the US carries out information wars in China and Iran as well.
