Chernobyl book awarded Pushkin House prize in London

Writer Sergei Plokhiy has won the London Pushkin House award for his book Chernobyl: The History of Tragedy, TASS reports. The award ceremony took place on the evening of June 12 in London. The book is based on the documents stored in archives. The author tells the story of the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which occurred in 1986. The writer tries to understand the causes of the disaster, writes about its perception in society, the consequences and lessons of this event.

Russkiy Mir reported the Pushkin House Prize had been established seven years ago. It is given to authors of the best books in the genre of non-fiction dedicated to Russia and published in English. The jury consists of writers, literary critics, scholars, historians, journalists, art historians, representatives of leading universities in the UK. The prize fund of the award is five thousand pounds.

The HBO channel released the miniseries called Chernobyl. The film starring Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgard and Jared Harris were shot hit the IMDb rating of 250 TV shows with the highest rating of viewers and scored 9.6 points, which is more than that of the cult Game of Thrones received.

A year ago, Alexis Pery, a historian from the United States, received a prize with a book dedicated the Siege of Leningrad.
