MFA Russia: With connivance of Brussels in Europe, rights of national minorities are violated

With the tacit consent of Brussels and the connivance of the leadership of some countries in the EU, the rights of national minorities are violated, Russian Foreign Ministry considers. However, some European politicians are trying to demonize Russia. The department commented so on the presentation of Christos Stylianidis, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. A statement on behalf of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy was made at the European Parliament on July 18.

Russian Foreign Ministry called the heightened interest of some political forces in the EU to the human rights situation in our country unhealthy. Words about the alleged violations of human rights and the sharpening of attention to the Ukrainian "political prisoners" in Russia were called prejudiced by the department.

There are forces in the European Union that are trying to prevent the normalization of relations between Moscow and Brussels. This is the only way to assess the very fact of addressing this topic at one of the first meetings of the European parliamentarians of the new convocation. Such step looks even more strange, given that there are enough problems with human rights in the European Union itself.

The EU leaders turn a blind eye to the fact that the process of rehabilitating Nazism is gaining momentum on the continent. Its result is the strengthening of sentiments of racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism. Increasingly, the rights of migrants and national minorities are violated. And in some countries, there is still massive statelessness, which is a shame for modern Europe.

It is a matter of concern for the situation with respect for freedom of the media and the rights of journalists.

The existence of double standards in the EU is further confirmed by the fact that Europe prefers not to pay attention to the course towards enforced Ukrainization conducted by the Ukrainian regime at the state level. This is evidenced by discriminatory laws on education and on the state language. They not only violate international obligations, but also run counter to the Ukrainian constitution and the Minsk agreements.

The trial of Kirill Vyshinsky, who has been in prison for more than a year on an artificial accusation, proves a catastrophic situation with respect for media freedom in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that the European partners have repeatedly expressed interest in developing a constructive dialogue with Russia. Moscow is always open to dialogue, but such Russophobic statements are unlikely to contribute to it.
