Almost 300 vocalists from 30 countries entered the Jose Carreras Grand Prix vocal competition of the Elena Obraztsova Foundation, TASS reports. Participants from different countries - from Argentina to South Korea, from Japan to Estonia - showed a desire to compete for the main prize.

The prestigious international competition starts on November 30 and runs for a week. The artists will perform in the Zaryadye Concert Hall and on the stage of the Helikon-Opera Theater.

The unique tournament of vocalists was first held in 2018, its jury was headed by the world famous singer Jose Carreras. The winners performed on leading stages in Europe.

The competition provides an opportunity to prove themselves to young performers aged 18 to 34 years. Fifteen prizes are awarded - for each type of voice, as well as one Grand Prix. The tournament was supposed to take place in September, but was postponed to a later date due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, Jose Carreras will again head the jury. Together with him, the competition will be judged by outstanding representatives of the opera art, which will become an additional incentive for the participants.
