The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the American authorities of hypocrisy and double standards, RIA Novosti reports. The department commented on the speeches of the head of the US Department of State Anthony Blinken on illegal protests in Russia. Representatives of the US Embassy joined the Secretary of State.
The diplomatic mission appealed to the Russian authorities not to violate human rights. The American diplomats recalled that before the start of the actions in Moscow, the city center was closed and several protest leaders were detained. Blinken said that Washington "condemns the continued use of harsh tactics by the Russian authorities against peaceful protesters and journalists for the second week in a row."
The Foreign Ministry noted that it is not appropriate for diplomats to be so worried about illegal actions. The American authorities need to stop interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, the embassy said.
There is ample evidence of Washington's interference in Russia's internal affairs. It also proved the "promotion" of fakes and calls for unauthorized actions on social networks, which are under the control of the American authorities.
The fact that the US Secretary of State approves and supports violations of the law is another fact that proves Washington's behind the scenes role. ''There is no doubt that actions aimed at encouraging protests are part of a strategy to contain Russia,'' the Foreign Ministry said.
