The closure of the Center for Russian Language and Culture at the Krakow Pedagogical University "breaks one of the threads" of the humanitarian dialogue between Russia and Poland, said Maria Zakharova, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry. Earlier, the university authorities announced the termination of the work of the center, opened in 2009 at the initiative of the Russkiy Mir Foundation. The reasons for this decision were not announced, TASS reports.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the department regrets the refusal of the Polish university to prolong cooperation, which continued within the framework of the center for more than ten years. Maria Zakharova emphasized the relevance of the programs and activities of the Russian Center for Polish students, teachers and everyone who studied Russian, as well as for the local population interested in Russian culture.

According to the announced figures, over the years of the center's existence, hundreds of participants in Russian as a foreign language courses were able to study, pass an exam and receive an international certificate. The center also hosted more than 600 events, including festivals, seminars and meetings with Russian cultural figures.

The Krakow center was one of the best centers of the Russian World, contributing to the promotion of the Russian language and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Thanks to the center, Polish students of Russian studies had the chance to study at Russian universities and improve their Russian language skills in summer language schools.
