The monument on the grave of the Russian sailor was opened after the completion of restoration work in Indonesia, according to the website of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg. The ceremony was timed to coincide with the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Lieutenant Sergei Khokhlov is buried in the Christian cemetery of the city of Sabang, which is located on the Indonesian island of Veh. The sailor died after an accident on the Poltava  battleship. It happened 120 years ago - on February 27, 1901. At that time, the ship was sailing from Kronstadt to the Pacific Ocean.

The seaman's burial place was discovered in 2019. This was preceded by a lot of work by historians and diplomats who studied archival documents and toured cemeteries. After the grave was found, it turned out that the monument on it was in fairly good condition, with the exception of the disappeared cross.

Now the grave is crowned with a new cross. The author of the project is the architect from St. Petersburg Rafael Dayanov. The cross was cast thanks to voluntary donations, consecrated and delivered to Indonesia. After the installation of the cross on the grave, the Orthodox priest held a memorial service, then flowers were laid at the burial place of the Russian sailor.

It was the day when Yuri Gagarin, the first man of the new space era, was brought to near-earth orbit by the Vostok-1 spacecraft. The flight lasted just a little over an hour and a half, but it turned Gagarin into a figure that has been admired throughout the world ever since. The feat accomplished by Gagarin 60 years ago inspires us to recall the incredible connection of his story with Lolita Torres - a singer and one of the top actresses from Argentina's golden era of cinema.
In 2021, the Lake Baikal Ice Marathon was held on Baikal for the 17th time. The reporter of the Dutch newspaper de Volksrant decided to test himself and overcome 42 kilometers at -29 degrees Celsius and in a scorching wind. He was joined by other 60 athletes.
