ROC established Patriarchal Exarchate in Africa

The Patriarchal Exarchate has been created in Africa by the Russian Orthodox Church, RIA Novosti reports. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the ROC Synod on December 29, RIA Novosti reports.

The Exarchate united the Dioceses of North Africa and South Africa. Archbishop Leonid of Yerevan and Armenia was appointed Patriarchal Exarch. He was given the title of "Klinsky."

the North African Diocese includes the parishes of  Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. It includes more than 30 African countries. Almost 25 countries of the continent are assigned to the Diocese of South Africa.

More than 100 priests of the Alexandrian Patriarchate were taken under the jurisdiction of the Synod of the ROC. Earlier, the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II recognized the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
