Russian sailors rescued 68 foreigners in the Mediterranean, RIA Novosti reports. On the night of June, 19, they responded to a call for help sent from the Avalon yacht in distress.

The signal was received by the frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the cargo ship Pizhma. The Ministry of Defense said that the ships were heading to Tartus, Syria. The frigate received an SOS signal in the southern Aegean. The ships immediately changed course and headed to a yacht that sailed under the Greek and German flags.

Passengers were transferred on board the dry cargo ship, they received all the necessary assistance. Then they were taken to the bay of the island of Kalymnos, where the Greek coast guard helped them.
