Kirov has become the New Year's capital of Russia, the website of the government of the Kirov region reports. The solemn ceremony of handing over the symbol of the New Year holidays was timed to coincide with the Christmas celebration. It took place on January, 7. The head of the Suzdal administration, Alisa Biryukova, handed over the snowflake symbol to her colleague from Kirov, Vyacheslav Simakov.

Suzdal, which will celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2024, took over the title of the country's New Year's capital from Novosibirsk in 2023. In 2021, the New Year’s Capital of Russia project created by the Ministry of Culture celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Governor of the Kirov region Alexander Sokolov said that in 2024 the city will turn 650 years old. The New Year, he said, is a fabulous time, and the head of the region promised to do everything to make sure there are as many smiles as possible this year.

A rich festive program is planned in Kirov, the celebrations will begin in the summer.
