US and Britain to impose new sanctions against Russia

10.04.2017

RF Defence Ministry U.S. President Donald Trump considers imposing new sanctions against Russia. The details are discussed with the administration. According to the White House, new sanctions should become reaction on Russia’s actions in Syria, RIA Novosti reports.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told reporters about possible expansion of previous sanctions and imposing new ones against Russia and Iran. She has claimed that this question is being already discussed. The reason for new sanctions is Moscow’s support of Bashar al-Assad government.

The diplomat has added that US intelligence agencies have some evidence proving participation of official Damask in the chemical attack and explained that Central Intelligence Agency has some secret materials testifying this fact.

Washington should think twice before intensification of anti-Russian sanctions, Senior Member of the Russian Parliament’s upper house Alexei Pushkov believes. In this case, the last opportunity of a dialogue with Russia will disappear.

The head of Russia’s Federation Council of International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev agrees with this point of view. As Kosachev believes, acting like this, Trump “does not leave any escape routes”. A possibility of new sanctions was also mentioned by the British Diplomacy Head Boris Johnson.

As per Russkiy Mir Foundation, Syrian opposition accused Damask of chemical military operations in Idlib Province. According to their information, eighty people fell victims of the chemical attack and two hundred people were injured. The official Syrian army has denied the accusation placing the responsibility for this attack on the opposition and its protectors.
