Immortal Regiment action united thousands descendants of WW2 heroes

09.05.2017

Valeri Sharifullin/TASSImmortal Regiment procession was led by Vladimir Putin. This is the third time Russian President takes part in this action.

Procession participants gathered at noon. They have brought the portraits of their ancestors who passed away during World War Two. The crowd went through the city center, including the Red Square. There were several hundreds thousand people.

For the very first time relatives of war veterans went out with portraits of their ancestors in Siberian city Tyumen in 2007. As the first attempt for the mass event the Immortal Regiment procession was conducted in Tomsk in 2012, and in more local format in several other cities. In just a few years the action became the main symbol of Russia's memory of those heroes who died to save our country and the world from Nazis.
