Slavonic Night held in Taipei

22.12.2017

Chjenchji State University (Taiwan) hosted the annual Slavonic Night organized by the Slavonic department and Russian center on December 22. The students performed plays based on Russian folk tales and literature.

The jury included the Russian translator Tsu Guan, the radio presenter Chechena Kuular and the head of a Russian Sunday school Igor Sergienko.

The first year students staged the play Bethlehem and Chukovsky’s fairytale Moydodyr as well as Marshak’s Railroad Fantasies.

The second year students performed a play on their own plot. The other teams demonstrated the Grimm brothers’ Pot of Porridge and Sologub’s tale Lohengrin. The audience was impressed with the colorful stage settings.

The graduate students also decided to participate. The third year students staged Chekhov’s At the Dacha. The fourth year students and the master degree students together with an employee of the Russian center staged Ostrovsky’s The Poor Bride. The audience admired the flawless pronunciation of the young actors and their wonderful performance.

The idea of such events is to give the students a chance to improve their language skills and to expose them to the world of the Russian language and literature.
