A new exhibition opens in The State Russian Museum branch in Malaga, Spain, according to the Russia’s Museums website. Exposition named Travels of Russian Artists started on February 10. Among exhibited items are paintings by Petrov, Savrasov, Shishkin, Levitan, Repin, Vasnetsov, Polenov and many others. The works are stored in the Russian Museum’s archives. More than a hundred of masterpieces are currently exhibited.

As per the organizers, as early as the 18th century, the Academy of Fine Arts helped its students travel by allocating the finances for creative business trips. As a rule, they chose Italy as their destination. Many famous artists reflected views of the Italian nature and scenes of common people’s routine in their works.

The geography of their creative trips was gradually growing to comprise Palestine and China. At the end of the 19th century India, Japan, Egypt and Tibet joint the list of popular destinations.

After the Soviet Regime’s establishment, artists could not travel abroad too often. However, such trips happened from time to time. At the second half of the 20th century, their number has explicitly increased. Italy and France were especially adored by the Russian artists in 19th century as well.

The Russian Museum experts believe that Spanish admirers of fine arts would be interested in the works depicting their native lands, namely Sevilla. Matador by Konchalovsky, The Spanish Woman at Balcony by Golovin, Bullfighting by Redko, Granada by Salakhov and Spain. Pot makers. By Evsey Moiseenko.

The exhibition will be opened until the beginning of this autumn.
