The performance of Russian swimmers at the European Championship in Olympic sports has become very productive, TASS reports.

They have 26 medals, and this is a record achievement for the national team in the history of the performances at European championships including Soviet time. Ten times Russian swimmers climbed to the top spot of the podium. They also won ten silver medals and six bronze medals.

The head of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov believes that the performance at this tournament can be called the best for the Russian swimming. There are medals, world and European achievements. But at the same time he is convinced that one must not stop at what has been achieved. Vladimir Salnikov expressed the hope that this result will turn into a starting point for world championships and the next Olympic Games. He called the athletes “heroes” and noted the excellent work of the coaching staff.

Russian coach Sergei Chepik also was pleased with the performance of his team.

The main intrigue of the last day was the competition between Russia and Britain for the leadership in the overall rating. The victory in the women's 44x100m medley relay allowed the Russians to defend the first place.

The day before, the three medals were won by our synchro divers. Viktor Minibaev and Alexander Bondar were the first in 10m platform synchro diving. Ilya Zakharov became the second in the men's three-metre springboard event, his team-mate Evgeny Kuznetsov won the third place.

Russia holds the leading position in the unofficial medal ranking. It has 24 gold medals, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals. The second place is kept by the hosts of the tournament, the third is won by Holland.x
