Residents of Sitka (Alaska) held a rally against the transfer of the monument to the founder of "Russian America" Alexander Baranov from the city center to the museum of the first ruler of Russian settlements on the continent. Many Alaskans call Baranov the first governor of the state, according to the Russian America website.

The rally showed that many residents of Sitka did not want to transfer the monument, which is one of the main attractions of the city center. At the time of Alexander Baranov and later (until 1867) Sitka was called Novo-Arkhangelsk.

The rally was organized in the form of a silent protest. The head of the Russian Cultural Center of Alaska, Anna Vernaya, called the monument to Baranov evidence of an important page in the history of Alaska. According to her, he had the ability to find common ground with the indigenous peoples of Alaska, sought to compromise in any conflict situation.
