The international organization for the support and promotion of the Russian language will work under the auspices of The Commonwealth of Independent States, RIA Novosti reports. The leaders of the Commonwealth countries supported this decision on Friday, October 14, within the framework of the summit in Astana.

The activities of the new organization to be aimed at developing interaction between the CIS countries in the cultural and humanitarian fields, based on the harmony of the Russian language and the languages of the CIS member states.

As Russkiy Mir reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that Russia will do everything to help in the formation of the new international organization. Putin has underlined that 2023 was declared the Year of the Russian language, and called “symbolic” the fact that Tokaev made this proposition just before the 2023 starts.

President of the Russian Federation recalled that Russian in the CIS plays an important role as the language of interethnic communication, also in a practical dimension. Millions of residents of the CIS countries work in Russia.

The Year of the Russian Language will contribute to the spiritual and cultural mutual enrichment of the Commonwealth member countries, Putin underlined. He called the Russian language a “unifying force”. “It is the Russian language that holds together a single civilizational space on the territory of the CIS”, said Putin.
