Victory Day celebrated around the world

Residents of 40 countries joined the celebration of Victory Day, RIA Novosti reports. According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the celebrations and commemorative actions began even before May, 9.

People pay tribute to the memory of the heroes who saved the world for future generations from Nazism.

Zakharova recalled that in unfriendly countries they are trying to spread tales that Russia allegedly remained alone, its actions do not enjoy the support of the world community. But even before the holiday, the Immortal Regiment was held in 40 countries, as well celebrations and clean-ups at military graves. These are 40 countries on five continents, Zakharova specified, although it is on May 9 that the main part of the holiday starts.

The winners are honored by tens of thousands of people. Among them are citizens of other states, and Russian compatriots living abroad, children and adults. Russian diplomats are helping them, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. 

The celebrations in honor of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War swept the whole of Russia, many events were timed to coincide with the holiday date abroad. A military parade was held across Red Square, museums, libraries and cultural centers prepared a large-scale program.

The decision to hold the Victory Parade or not was made by the heads of the regions, based on the interests of ensuring the safety of citizens.
