The index of the position of the Russian language in the world was presented by the Pushkin Institute, Parliamentary newspaper reports. The corresponding research has been going on for three years. It includes two parts: the index of the global competitiveness of the Russian language and the index of the stability of the Russian language in the countries of the post-Soviet space.

In terms of popularity and distribution, Russian ranks 5th among the 12 global languages in the world.

In terms of the number of speakers of the language, Russia was on the 9th line. Russian is spoken by 255 million people. The top three are English, Chinese and Hindi.

Russian is in the 4rth place in terms of the number of international organizations in which it is recognized as official or working language, coming right after English, French and Spanish.

In terms of the number of media materials, Russian closes the top five; in terms of the number of Russian-language media, it is in 6th position. By the number of users on the Internet - on the 9th. By the number of Russian-language websites - on the 2nd, only English is ahead.

The Russian language global competition index was 2.86. This is the 5th place. On the first lines - English, Spanish, Chinese and French.

The Pushkin Institute noted that the place of the Russian language has not changed since last year, which indicates that its position remains stable.

In the post-Soviet space, the Russian language is most common in Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The worst situation of the Russian language is in Ukraine, Georgia and Lithuania.
