Events dedicated to the Day of the Russian Language took place the day before in different countries. The holiday was celebrated on June, 6, Alexander Pushkin's birthday.
In Moldova, parliament deputies brought flowers to the monument to the poet, which is installed in the central park in Chisinau, TASS reports. They were joined by diplomats, public figures and everyone who loves Russian literature. The rally participants recalled that Pushkin spent several years in Moldova and wrote many of his immortal lines there. According to the speakers, this cultural heritage must be preserved and passed on to the future generations.
The flower-laying ceremony took place in Washington. A monument to the poet is located in the campus of the George Washington University. Russian diplomats brought flowers there, students of the school at the embassy recited Pushkin's poems.
The poet's birthday was also celebrated in Georgia. Residents and guests of Tbilisi gathered on Freedom Square, where the monument to Pushkin is located.
In Armenia, according to tradition, admirers of the poet's work gathered at the Pushkin Pass, near the village of Gerger, Lori region. Pushkin Pass has become a place of pilgrimage for those who cherish the Russian language and the work of the great poet. Adults and children came to the monument to Pushkin to read poetry.
Pushkin's lines were performed in Astana by students and professors of the Kazakh branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University. It is not the first time that the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo has held the ''Pushkins walk around Kazakhstan'' campaign. Everyone who met the poet on the street received a badge with his image as a gift. This year, a new "Pushkin" project has started - the coloring festival #Pushkin224, which can also turn into an annual tradition.
A memorial ceremony was held in Cairo. Flowers at the Alexander Pushkin's monument were laid by admirers of his work, representatives of the Russian House, the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian (Soviet) Universities and others. Students of local educational institutions read the poems of the poet.
