The first group of Russian tourists entered Iran under a visa-free regime. The Russians arrived at the Tehran airport and went to the city of Babolser in the northern province of Iran, accompanied by representatives of the municipality, RIA Novosti reports.

The head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Folk Crafts and Tourism of the province of Mazandaran, Sadegh Barzegar, noted that representatives of the region met the first group of tourists at the airport. According to him, the visit is aimed at popularizing the province among tourists from Russia and the CIS countries.

Russia and Iran opened group tourist exchanges as part of an intergovernmental agreement on August, 1. The first Iranian group to enter under the visa-free regime was met in Russia on September, 21. Tourism workers studied what services the regions of the North Caucasus provide to guests.

The agreement on visa-free travel was signed by the countries about two years ago.
