Russian scientist is nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physics

Flickr/Solis InvictiA name of the owner of the most prestigious scientific award in the world – the Nobel Prize will be revealed today, TASS reports. The Nobel Prize committee will announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Nobody knows who entered the Nobel Prize candidates’ list; their names are always kept secret and revealed only in fifty years. The scientists get to know about the victory only at the moment of official announcement.

At this, specialized companies put up some forecasts. In particular, Clarivate Analytics tries to analyze who is to become a new prizewinner based on citation rating of the scientists. The list of 2017 includes the name of the Russian astrophysicist Rashid Syunyaev in the Physics nomination.

He works in the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and heads the German Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics.

Rashid Syunyaev was awarded with the State Award of the Russian Federation several months ago. Together with his colleague Nikolay Shakura he founded the theory of the Instability of disk accretion on to black holes. At present, he is the most cited scientist abroad. The research shows more than eight thousand references in the scientific literature.

Syunyaev was nominated for the Kraford’s Award nine years ago. He was complemented for the large contribution into development of astrophysics of high energies and cosmology. According to jury, his works became an important step on the way of understanding evolution and the structure of the Universe.

The gala ceremony took place in Stockholm where the King of Sweden handed him the award.
