Festival of Russian folklore takes place in Australia

Igrai, Garmon (Let accordion play) folk song festival opened in Sydney. Singers from Russia and Australia are going to perform Russian and Cossack folklore songs at the concerts in Canberra, Melbourne and Gold Coast. The festival brought together the best accordionists of Australia. The sponsor of the event is the patron of arts, the creator of the first Museum of Russian Emigration in Australia, Mikhail Ovchinnikov.

Russian singer Viktor Strigunenko, who is an artist of the Russian Igrai, Garmon center and the winner of international Cossack festivals is going to perform during the event. The singer prepared for the Australian public a program of the best Cossack songs.

The members of the Krinitsa quartet will present their new program on the stage. More than a month ago, the festival organizers notified performers on accordion and balalaika, dozens of musicians, professionals and amateurs are expected to perform.

The festival will end on June 8.

Note, that on the eve of the festival the second Russian Cossack Ball opened in Sydney. The guests met with traditional Cossack songs and dances and listened to the program of Russian folk songs performed by artists from Russia.
