Russia Day celebrated in the regions and abroad

Russia Day was celebrated the day before, on June, 12, throughout the country, as well as in many places abroad, TASS reports. By tradition, on this day, prominent Russians received awards from the hands of the President  Vladimir Putin. Among them are the creators of The Challenge space drama, director Karen Shakhnazarov, scientists and others.

More than 100 events took place in the Russian capital, including performances, concerts and competitions. In St. Petersburg, the audience was invited to the Peter and Paul Fortress for the festival of brass bands.

Various events were also held in the North Caucasus. A large-scale Russian tricolor and the flag of Chechnya were unfurled in Grozny.

In Vladikavkaz, members of youth creative teams also unfurled the Russian flag. Also in the capital of North Ossetia, more than 1,000 schoolchildren sang the national anthem.

In Chita, a new tradition has begun - to raise the flag of Russia and sing the anthem at the Alexander Nevsky Chapel on Titovskaya Sopka.

In Vladivostok, the holiday was celebrated with a sailing regatta.

For the first time, residents of new regions officially joined the holiday. There was a presentation of postage stamps, residents of Makeevka and Genichesk received ribbons in the colors of the tricolor. In the Zaporozhye region, houses, porches and windows were decorated with tricolors as part of the Flag in the Yards campaign; in Melitopol, a competition of drawings was held.

Many regions turned to national history. A competition of craftsmen was held in Kurgan, and a festival of national cultures was held in Kaluga. A quest dedicated to the culture of the native land and its indigenous people was held in Karelia.

The Russian Soul festival was held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, in other cities of the Central Asian republic, residents became participants in various cultural events.

Almost 500 people came to the festive reception at the Russian Embassy in Washington. Among the guests were heads of foreign diplomatic missions, compatriots and public figures.

The tallest skyscraper in the world - Dubai's Burj Khalifa - was painted in the colors of the Russian flag on Russia Day.
