The Finnish authorities intend to introduce new restrictions on the Russian border, the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs stated. According to the head of the department, Marie Rantanen, the ministry is preparing a new version of the draft law, RIA Novosti reports. It should replace a document that was rejected by Deputy Chancellor of Justice Mikko Puumalainen.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs promised that stricter measures will definitely be introduced.

On the night of November, 18, Finland closed four checkpoints on the border with Russia. Helsinki explained the decision by the migration issues.

By the evening of November 18, it became known about the closure of another checkpoint - Vartius. As explained in Helsinki, the reason was its overload.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the closure of checkpoints contradicts the rights and interests of tens of thousands of citizens of both Finland and Russia. The decision was made in haste, without consultation with Moscow, the department noted.
