The chemical attack, which took place on November 24, in Syrian Aleppo, should be investigated by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), RIA Novosti cites Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev. He added that Russia must demand an investigation, despite the pro-Western lobby inside the OPCW.

On Saturday the Russian Ministry of Defence reported terrorist militants to attack residential areas of Aleppo with shells containing chlorine. Forty-six civilians, including children, were hurt. According to SANA agency, the number of victims reached 107 civilians, many were hospitalized with signs of suffocation.

Russian military chemists work in the city. On Sunday, the Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft destroyed the militants who committed the attack according to TASS. The Russian Ministry of Defence the militants were preparing a second attack.

According to Konstantin Kosachev, it is necessary to demand OPCW to investigate the chemical attack in Aleppo in order to prove that Syria is fighting not with insurgents but with bloody militants. The head of the Federation Council committee, however, believes that members of the OPCW from the pro-Western countries are likely to try to prevent an investigation or to blame the Syrians for chemical attack. The lack of response to the attacks from Western states proves it, Kosachev claims.
