Pallada and Kruzenshtern completed voyage in honor of Antarctica

The Russian sailing ship Pallada has completed a voyage around the world, according to RIA Novosti. On Wednesday, June 3, it returned to Vladivostok, where it started the journey in November 2019. Travelers were met by representatives of local authorities; on board they were traditionally handed a pie and roasted pig.

The same morning, the Kruzenshtern barge entered the port of Kaliningrad, completing the transatlantic journey. The meeting ceremony will be held at noon in compliance with sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

Over the 216 days spent in the voyage, Pallada overcame more than 26,000 nautical miles, visited the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans, visited ports in Samoa, Chile, Tahiti, Argentina, South Africa and Singapore. The longest transition of the crew without going ashore lasted 75 days. The sailboat also took part in the 200-mile regatta held in the South Atlantic in honor of the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica.

Together with the Pallada, the Sedov sailing ship arrived at the port of Vladivostok. It will stay in the capital of the Primorsky Territory until June 27, and then return to Kaliningrad. At the moment, the ship overcame more than 23,000 nautical miles and entered six ports. Sedov’s arrival in Kaliningrad is expected in October.

Kruzenshtern stayed at sea for almost six months. It overpassed about 24,000 nautical miles and made calls at seven ports of four states. The bark was supposed to return home on September 3, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ship was unable to enter a number of foreign ports, the route had to be changed.

The first ever joint expedition of Sails of the World began at the end of 2019. The Sedov bark and the Pallada frigate set off on a world tour, the Kruzenshtern bark  - on the transatlantic one. Te swimming was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. Pallada started from Vladivostok on November 1, Sedov and Kruzenshtern - from Kaliningrad on December 8. On February 20 and 21, sailboats took part in a race in memory of the discovery of the sixth continent, which 200 years ago was made by Russian sailors under the leadership of Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev. At the end of April, Sedov and Pallada met at the entrance to the Strait of Malacca and then moved along the same route.
