Zakharova: Western countries should be proud of “achievements” in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan

11.12.2017

Russian Foreign Ministry Western states should remember what they could achieve in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, according to official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova. In her opinion, they should not appropriate military success of our country in Syria, RIA Novosti.

Gentlemen, stop it! Your achievements are Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan. Be proud of them, Maria Zakharova stated.

It was her comment on statement of French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, that Moscow has allegedly appropriated the victory over terrorists from the Islamic State.

Russian Defense Ministry has earlier criticized actions of the Western coalition headed by Washington in Syria. After three years of the coalition existence, it has recently got its first result of its anti-terrorist fights, the Minister believes. This result is destruction of Raqqa together with local population by mass bombings. The Russian Defense Ministry has noted that Western countries left citizens of the bombed area without humanitarian aid and medical treatment.

At the end of last week, Le Drian has expressed surprise that Russia appropriated the victory over the Islamic State in Syria. He has found here an unreasoned interpretation. French Foreign Minister has claimed that the Islamic State and the territory it occupied were defeated by the Western coalition. Minister is sure that Russian military forces decided to render help to Bashar al-Assad but were late and could liberate only Deir ez-Zor.

Senior officials of USA made similar statements earlier.
