Austrian police dropped accusations against Russian biathletes

The Austrian police has dropped all the accusations against the Russian biathletes, agency RNS reports. According to the president of the Russian Biathlon Union, Vladimir Drachev, athletes can compete in tournaments again.

He explained that the situation had been discussed with a trusted lawyer the day before. It took place in a diplomatic mission in Vienna. Participants carefully and thoroughly studied all the materials on the case. The situation stabilized, charges against the athletes had been withdrawn, he concluded.

Russkiy Mir reported earlier the police officers to have notified the Russian national biathlon team in Hochfilzen, Austria that they were conducting an investigation. The accusations were made against athletes and members of the coaching staff. They were suspected of using doping at the 2017 world championship in Austria.

Police suspected ten people. This list included coaches, doctors, massage therapists and sportsmen. Anti-doping law violation is a criminal offense in Austria. All suspects had to provide give explanations.

According to the commentator and moderator Dmitry Guberniev, the accusations were brought suddenly on the events of two years ago. At tournaments of this level, Russians were regularly tested for the use of doping, and no questions had previously appeared. Austrian police did not specify why it decided to start investigation this year.
