The 9th Russian Language and Culture in the Mirror of Translation International conference opened in Thessaloniki on April 10. It will last until April, 14.
Higher School of Translation of Moscow State University is the principal organizer of the event. The Institute of Translation Autonomous Non-Profit Organization (Russia); Center of Russian Language and Russian Culture of the Russkiy Mir Foundation at the Democritus University of Thrace also took part in the event set up.
College and universities teachers, graduate and postgraduate students, translators, researchers and other Russian language specialists discuss range of actual topics on the theory and practice of translation, its history and methodology. Important interpreters' training matters, new techniques of teaching, writing new textbooks and vocabularies are explored.
Several round tables dedicated to Alexander Pushkin and Ivan Krulov anniversaries are to take place.
During the conference, participants will meet with a well-known Russian writer, translator and screenwriter Lyudmila Ulitskaya, winner of the Russian Booker Award (2001) and Big Book (2007, 2016). Lyudmila Ulitskaya's works have been translated into more than 25 languages.
As Russkiy Mir reported, Arja Pikkupeura received Finnish prize named after Mikael Agricola for translating Lyudmila Ulitskaya's People of Our Tsar novel. The award is handed every year for the translation of a significant work of fiction into Finnish.
