Russian citizenship will become more available for highly qualified foreigners. The State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) has adopted in the first reading a draft bill that reduces from three years to one year the work experience that is mandatory for foreign highly qualified specialists to obtain Russian citizenship, RIA Novosti reports.

The draft law is aimed at attracting high-class foreign specialists in the fields which are attractive for the Russian economy. According to State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, the list of professions has already been drawn up and approved by the Government of Russia. It includes a wide variety of professions - doctors and other health care professionals, engineers, information security experts, workers and other specialties.

Volodin is convinced that the law will provide foreigners with a chance to connect their future with Russia, and the country will be given the opportunity to bring qualified personnel to various sectors of the economy, especially the technological sphere. According to Volodin, this task was set by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
