Russia has sent a shipment of humanitarian aid to Namibia, TASS reports. It was stated by the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko. She arrived in the African country with an official visit as the head of the delegation of the upper house of the Russian parliament.

The humanitarian aid is destined for Namibian residents who suffer from severe drought. Several hundred tons of long-term food products were delivered to Namibia.

According to the Russian politician, Moscow came up with a proposal to abandon the visa regime. If an agreement between the governments of both countries is signed, residents will be able to freely visit Russia and Namibia. Matvienko is confident that this will help to strengthen bilateral relations.

Valentina Matvienko expressed the hope that the Namibian authorities would take this idea seriously.
