Mothers of babies born in Finland can receive children's books in nine languages, including Russian, for free. The publications are issued within the framework of the  "Book Gift for a Child" state program, designed to provide children with equal access to books and to enthrall them with reading from an early age. The action will cost Finland 1.2 million euros over three years, according to Yle.fi.

Mothers living in Finland can choose the language of the book, which will be the first in a child's life. Within the framework of the campaign, books are available in nine languages, including Russian, Finnish, Estonian and other languages of the neighboring northern countries, as well as Arabic and Somali.

It is noted that fairy tales heard by a child in his native language will contribute to his linguistic development and encourage him to learn other languages. The book set includes works by Finnish writers and a manual for parents, which reveals the importance of reading books in a child's native language for the development of his or her identity.
