Russia establishes the Hermitage Prize

Russian conductor Valery Gergiev and Spanish ballet dancer and choreographer Nacho Duato are the first recipients of the Hermitage Prize, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports. The artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theater and the head of the Mikhailovsky Theater ballet company to be honored "for achievements in the field of culture and art, preserving cultural heritage and strengthening international cultural dialogue."  

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, the award to be presented every year. Two laureates will be chosen among cultural figures, one from Russia and the other from abroad. 

The Forum of United Cultures, in collaboration with the Hermitage, has established an award. Museum Director Mikhail Piotrovsky shared that laureates will receive a scaled-down version of the Kolyvan vase, a symbolic representation of the Hermitage, Russia, its natural wealth, and domestic artistry. 

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum - Forum of United Cultures, commencing on November 16 for its ninth edition after a three-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions.
