Sergei Lavrov: About 30 countries are seeking partnership with BRICS

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the desire of many countries to cooperate with BRICS logical, TASS reports. According to him, at the moment about 30 countries are planning to establish partnerships with the association. 

This desire is understandable, because the BRICS activities are based on a truly democratic approach, the minister noted. The work of the association is based on mutual respect, the minister stressed. Sergei Lavrov assured that every effort will be made to ensure that BRICS strengthens its position as one of the pillars of a multipolar world.

The association recently welcomed Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. According to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the decision will take effect from the beginning of next year.
