Friends of BRICS gathered at the Russian Embassy in Budapest, TASS reports. Foreign diplomats were invited to a reception dedicated to the New Year celebrations. This meeting was the first such event organized by the Russian embassy abroad this year.

According to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, Evgeny Stanislavov, BRICS is in the process of expansion. The association becomes an independent unit in the global dimension.

Stanislavov noted that in official circles in Hungary there is nothing said about interest in cooperation with BRICS. Nevertheless, the country's president, Katalin Nowak, noted that the European Union is already noticeably lagging behind other countries, including BRICS members.

Budapest follows the activities of BRICS with interest. Despite the fact that Hungary is a member of NATO and the EU, it cannot fail to notice existing trends, the ambassador is sure.

Evgeny Stanislavov recalled that this year Moscow is taking the chairmanship of BRICS. He stressed that the association operates in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, demonstrates economic strength, an increase in the number of member states and expansion of global authority.

27 countries are currently in line, waiting for ''at least the status of a partner state'' of BRICS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that it is not possible to bring all willing states into the union in the near future.

He said that Russia would introduce a ''Brixian culture'' into global politics. Currently, the association includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa; in 2023, 23 countries announced their intention to join BRICS.

Since the beginning of the new year, the association has doubled in size, with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia joining.
